The Kootenay List

Your business, your listing

Add or claim your business

Use this form whether your business is on the List or not. It lets you tell people about your business in your own words, with your hours and your pictures. It's free, it stays free, and it takes about five minutes.

Which of these are you doing?

Check what's below and fix anything that's wrong. Not sure your business is on the List? Search for its name first. If nothing comes up, switch to Add my business.

1

Your business

Check what's on your listing. Fix anything wrong or missing, and leave the rest as it is.

Below is what the List shows about J. Eisenhauer Woodworks today. Change anything that's wrong, and clear anything that shouldn't be there. Listing reference: j-eisenhauer-woodworks-kimberley

This is your category today. If I put you in the wrong one, change it. It's your call.

Lots of places here are two things at once, like a shop that also serves coffee. Pick a second category and you'll show up in both.

How people reach youType them the way they should look on your listing. Clear a box to take it off.

Only add an address if customers come to you there. Lots of people here work from home or out of a truck. Your listing works fine without an address.

2

What goes on your listing

Fill in what you want people to see. Skip anything you don't.

This shows on your listing under “In the owner's words”, marked as yours. Say what you do the way you'd tell a neighbour. That's what people search for. Up to about 150 words.
Your hoursLeave a day blank if it varies or you would rather not say. Tick Closed for the days you are shut.

You, and sending it

So I can check the business is yours and write back.

If you have an email at your business's own web address, use that. It proves the listing is yours in one step.

It's free, and it stays free. I answer every one.

I'm Brett Faucher of Kootenay Made Digital in Castlegar, BC, and I run The Kootenay List. I only use what you send to check this listing and reply to you. There's no mailing list. I never sell the list or share your details. To fix or remove anything here, email hello@kootenaylist.ca.

What your listing can show

  • What you actually doIn your words, so people searching for it find you. Public sources often list a business under one vague word. Only you can fix that.
  • Your real hoursThe hours you actually keep.
  • Your own wordsShown in your voice, and marked as yours so nobody thinks I wrote them.
  • Your logo and up to four photosPeople can open each one full size, so a poster or a menu is easy to read.
  • A booking or quote linkIt goes straight to your own booking page or contact form.
  • The area you serveIf you travel to jobs, show where you'll go.
  • Your social profilesLink your Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, LinkedIn and YouTube from your listing. The links you give me replace any I found myself.
  • The claimed markA mark that tells neighbours you look after this listing and keep it up to date.

What the List will never do

  • Charge youThere's nothing here to buy. Your listing is free, claiming it is free, and you can't buy a better spot on the page.
  • Sell your detailsI don't sell the list, and I never will.
  • Spam youThere's no mailing list. I only email you to reply.
  • Rank by who paidNobody pays, so money never decides who shows up first.
  • Lock you inAsk and I'll fix your listing or take it down, the same day when I can.
  • Track your customersPeople look you up and call you. Nothing follows them around afterward.

How it goes

  1. 01You fill this inTo claim a listing, I only need your name, your email and which business it is. To add a new one, I also need its town, its category, and a phone, website or address.
  2. 02I check itI make sure the business is yours. For a new business, I make sure it's real and people can reach it. An email address at your own website is the fastest proof.
  3. 03Your listing changesUsually within a week. I write back to tell you when it's done.
