Where to find them

Most of the region's grocery stores are in Castlegar, Nelson and Cranbrook. In all, they are in 44 towns. About a third have their own website. For the rest, the phone number is the best way in.

Grocery stores hold on in more small towns than nearly any other business. A place with a school and a post office will usually keep a store going somehow. In many of those towns, the store is also the gas stop, the mail counter and the notice board. That is why the hours on the door matter so much. Few have websites, so call to find out if they are open on a holiday.
