The Kootenay List

No. 04 / The Ledger

The Ledger

A monthly record of what changed on the List. Each month the register is read against the month before, and the differences go on a sheet: what was added, what became reachable, what was corrected, what came off. It reports the record, not the region.

Register sheet

July 2026

2,948 on record

The founding sheet. The List opened with 2,948 entries, each traced to a public source and carrying the date it was last seen there. From the next sheet on, this page records what changed.

How the Ledger works

The register, read against itself, once a month.

Where it comes from

The register itself. Every month a snapshot of the List is kept, and the new sheet is the difference between that snapshot and the one before it. No sheet is written by hand, so no sheet can quietly go stale.

What it can say

Only what the record shows. A business is added to the List on the day it was recorded, which is not the day it opened. A record that comes off is one that could no longer be verified, which is not a business closing. The sheet keeps to the register.
